Walking is a great addition to strength training.

Why do we love walking?

It's The Perfect Complement to Strength Training

While strength training is essential for building muscle, walking offers a range of benefits that make it worth your while.

Enhanced Cardiovascular Health: Walking is a low-impact aerobic exercise that strengthens your heart and improves circulation. It can lower the risk of heart disease and reduce blood pressure.

Weight Management: Combining walking with strength training can aid in weight loss and maintenance. Walking burns calories and helps create a calorie deficit when combined with a balanced diet.

Joint Health: Unlike high-impact exercises, walking is gentle on your joints. It helps improve joint flexibility and reduces the risk of injury.

Mental Wellbeing: This has to be our favourite. We're getting that all important Vitamin D and we're surrounded by water. Making it the ultimate stress reliever. It releases endorphins, which boost your mood and reduce anxiety and depression.

Improved Posture and Balance: Regular walking can enhance your posture and balance, which is crucial for strength training and overall fitness.

Here are our favourite Waterfront Park Walks in Five Dock and Wareemba

1. Drummoyne Oval to Chiswick

A lovely scenic walk behind Drummoyne oval. If you head to the right, you can walk up the stairs at the end of the culdesac and head to a great viewing station and rocky park. When you go left, you walk around the Bay and can weave right through to Chiswick and back again. Great if you're up for some hills or nice and relaxing by the water if you stick to the waterway. Dog friendly too.

2. Bay Run, Drummoyne - a classic, if not busy route

The famous Bay Run is a must-visit for walkers and runners alike. This 7-kilometer loop boasts stunning views of Iron Cove, lush greenery, and numerous exercise stations. It's the ideal place to challenge yourself while enjoying nature's beauty.

One of our favourite local walking tracks.
Iron Cove Bridge

3. Halliday Park, Five Dock - around Hen and Chicken Bay

Halliday Park provides a serene environment with a walking path hugging the water's edge. It's a great spot for a relaxing walk, and the nearby playground makes it family-friendly. And even better it winds around to Abbotsford via the Quarantine Station if you're up for a longer walk.
